Ethical Issues in Geological Data Collection
Many popular apps such as Facebook, Instagram, Gmail, and Youtube collect user information for targeted advertisements in their own economic ecosystems. Others, such as Uber, GasBuddy, or The Weather Channel, sell the user data collected through their applications to third parties. It is estimated that the data-sales industry will generate over $350 million annually in 2020.

Some issues you may want (but are not required) to consider are: Whether a disclosure inside the application about location tracking is sufficient to alleviate any ethical issues regarding privacy? Do companies have a responsibility to their investors to explore the additional revenue stream that geolocation tracking and data sales may provide? Do privacy concerns create a consumer distrust in a companys brand? Does the lack of privacy outweigh any benefits the apps may convey to the consumer or do the benefits of the app outweigh any privacy concerns?
